WALTER-SCOTT-AND-WILLIAM-BLAKE-
IN-SALTBURN
Scott wrote of Greta
and also of Rosslyn.
There's Saltburn's Greta Street
and Roslin House near-in.
Seventh of the River Streets
flowing down onto Albion
that connects with Britannia;
Glenside and Balmoral along
the way to the terrace
with which Albion connects,
fronting one of the seven seas.
Ah the mind, it recollects
Blake's giant with his wife,
and their daughters seven
who are like the Pleiades
up in the starry heaven.
CITY-OF-YORK-VERSE
Fulford, Scarcroft and Wilton,
three places I lived in York City.
Very old capital of the North
after which is named New York
that had been New Amsterdam.
York, York, not young but pretty.
Ah yes York, an inland-port.
Place for a man of verse-poetry.
THE FOREIGN FACE
Her visage was to visit
while deep I slept.
On my sea of dreams
was her face swept.
No ghost but a spirit
the girl came to me
from very far across
the real deep seas.
A foreign female
in England was she,
and I a foreigner
in Siam. Sure damn irony !
