when folk got their big-bills
under the poll-tax !
A PRECIOUS PEARL
Green palms, blue lagoon,
orangy-yellow-sun late-afternoon.
Coconut-juice, oysters too,
and the very pearl-of-a-girl that's you.
THE-ECLIPSING-COUPLE-THEY
Eyes meet across
a crowded room.
Boy meets girl.
Gold-sun meets blue-moon.
Lips will meet lips
the pair in eclipse.
LOVING-VENUS-VERSUS-
WARRING-MARS?
Women come from Venus
and men come from Mars,
but both are quite capable
of pure-love-and-evil-wars.
THE-PRETTY-DAMSEL'S-
IMPRISONED-HEART?
The girl sits on a wall
waiting, waiting to fall
into the arms of a fine-young-man
who is like a battering-ram
breaking down walls in an age bygone:
"Please come free me, fair-princely-one !"
IT'S-A-MAD-CITY-MAN'S-
TIME-TO-TRAVEL-VERSE
I like the city
but have to leave
when there is not
enough space to breathe
and the madding-crowds
make a guy grieve
for the loss of a countryside,
open fields, sky clear-and-wide.
THE-KITE-FLYING-COUPLE-
WERE-WE
We flew a kite midsummer
and balloons at Christmastime.
We were like young-children
or actors in a pantomime.
Yes we were like young-children.
At Christmas aren't we all?
And many in midsummer,
aware that soon will come the fall?
